Pace High football kicked off this Friday in the Classic against the Niceville Eagles in a showdown that started out with the freshman in a sloppy game with many turnovers. Despite Pace’s offense being able to run at will, they simply could not find the end zone after long drives.

Pace would have many opportunities to drive down the field but would turn it over, losing any gained momentum.

Second quarter the JV would enter to only see the same results: the Patriots/Eagles would have a nice drive just end it with a turnover.

The score going into half was knotted up at 0, but Pace’s varsity came out with a strong start to the second half with a quick 2-yard rushing touchdown from Damean Bivins after a 25-yard reception by J.C. Peacher put the Patriots within scoring range.

Niceville would answer right back with 2-yard rushing touchdown themselves. Later things would get out of hand with the Patriots turning the ball over leading to many Eagle scores putting them up 35-7 in the fourth quarter, but Pace would get momentum back late in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 15.

Bivins had a strong first game finishing with 3 touchdowns and a very promising start to the season; although he said, “We would physically need to improve a lot more as a team.”

We will see though how far this team can go this year with very high expectations after a rough season last here achieving only 3 wins. Pace returns 3 defensive starters who were out last year with season-ending injuries.
